Please watch these three
YOUTUBE videos featuring a discussion about modern astrophysics and the different opinions of these three presenters:
Video Part 1:
Part 2:
Part 3:
Stephen Hawkins-
Father Robert Spitzer-
Deepak Chopra-
Please Answer these questions:
1. What seemed to be the most interesting part of these discussions.
2. Please describe the viewpoint expressed by each of the presenters.
3. How do you think these opinions affect our society?
1) I think that the most interesting part of the discussion was Stephen Hawking's ideas that there doesn't need to be a God to create the universe. He said that there may be a God, but science can explain why a creator is not needed.
ReplyDelete2) Steven Hawking's viewpoint was that God may exist, but he is not needed to accomplish the task of creation and that science can prove it on its own and doesn't believe that something came from nothing, Father Spitzer's ideas express the existence of God and the philosophy of the Jesuit ideas of the Catholic Church and wants to show the ideas of that God created everything, and Deepak Chopra explains that the nothingness that creation came from is not an empty void and agrees with Father Spitzer's ideas of transcendence.
3) I think that these different opinions affect our society because these brilliant minds have an idea on what our universe really came from and different people's beliefs on whether there is a God or not and if there is one, what does God do.
1. I think that the most interesting part of the discussion was how Father Spitzer described his thoughts of God creating the universe, because he said something could not come out of nothing, but then the other scientists came into the conversation asking the question of how God came to be as well. There are so many different ways people believe the universe came about, and nobody knows for sure.
ReplyDelete2. Father Spitzer's ideas are that everything was created by God, and expresses the ideas of the Catholic Church. Deepak Chopra believes that everything came from nothingness but it wasnt an empty void, he said things appear from nothingess all the time, and then dissapear again. Steven Hawkings said that there may be a God, but everything in the universe can be explained by science and doesnt need a God to exist.
3. These ideas affect our society in a way that gives people options to think and believe their own ideas of how everything was created. These three men arent telling people to believe one thing or another, they are simply stating their opinion. There is no right or wrong way, because nobody knows for sure.
1. the most interesting part of the discussion was when Father Spitzer talked about his views on God and how the world was created by God. I thought it was interesting the the other scientists believe that it just happened and the Earth came from nothing.
ReplyDelete2. Steven Hawkings said that there might be a God, but everything in the universe can be explained by science. Father Spitzer talked about how God created the world, and talked about how there can not be a nothingness. Deepak Chopra believes that everything came from nothingness just like Steven Hawking did. He believes that everything will just disappear again.
3.THe opinions affect our society because it gives people the right to choose what they believe in. They get to choose how they believe the Earth was created. GOd gave us the right to choose what we believe and these men aren't telling people what to believe they are just expressing how they think that the Earth was created.
1. The most interesting part of these discussions is determining who created the universe and if God is the creator of the universe. They are answering the questions is science a threat to religion? Or is religion a threat to science? Also, how is the universe created out of nothing?
ReplyDelete2. Stephen Hawking said, “God may exist, but science can explain the universe without the need for a creator.” “According to M-theory, ours is not the only universe. Instead, M-theory predicts that a great many universe were created out of nothing. Their creation does not require the interview of some supernatural being or God. Rather, these Multiple universes arise naturally from Physical Law. They are a prediction of Science.” Deepak Chopra believes "this nothingness in not an empty void, it is the room of creation, that nature goes to the exact same place to create a galaxy of stars… the formless mind, infinite being, the transcendent mind." Father Robert Spitzer believes that Stephen Hawking book creates a problem, how could something be created out of Nothing? He believes God created the universe.
3. These options of proving or disproving God can lead to serious disagreement resulting in serious conflict which could start a problem in society. Stephen Hawking said “we are in danger of destroying ourselves by our greed and stupidity.” People in society have different beliefs on how the universe was created some people believe the universe was created by God, or by the big-bang theory. Some people do not respect other peoples opinions and will not accept them for what they believe, which would cause great conflict.
1. In the discussions, the most interesting part to me was the fact that Stephen Hawking’s believes that something can come from nothing. He states “God may exist, but science can explain the universe without the need for a creator.” This quote is very interesting because he has the scientific data to prove it, but for me it is still hard to grasp such a theory that something can be created from nothing.
ReplyDelete2. Stephen Hawkins solely believes that “God may exist, but science can explain the universe without the need for a creator” Stephen also believes in the idea that gravity and quantum theory can create universe’s out of nothing. Fr. Spitzer believes something completely opposite, he argues “how can something come from nothing” from that argument he believes that science will have a very difficult time to disprove the theory of God. Deepak Chopra shows belief in the ideas expressed by Stephen Hawking but, his beliefs are on a spiritual level, not scientific level, he does not believe that something came from nothing, but that things come to exist for spiritual reasons.
3. I think these opinions may confuse society; each opinion is so different, yet similar. Each argument about the creation of earth and how it came to be all have room for curiosity. Our society is a curious society, but I do not think that conflicting ideas are the best because many times people become very opinionated about what is right and wrong. Therefore these opinions will tend to anger the other opinions and reasoning.
1. I believe in this discussion, the most interesting part of it was that Stephen Hawkin's saying that something can come from nothing. He says in the video that God could exist but the universe could be explained without a creator and with science instead.
ReplyDelete2. Father Spitzer believes in the Catholic teaching and that God created the universe. While Stephen Hawkins believes that something can be created from nothing even if there is a God and says science can explain how the universe began. Deepak Chopra believes that something came from nothing but believes it comes from a spiritual level and not a scientific reason. Also, he believes that everything will disappear again.
3.I believe these opinions affect our society because they are coming from the top minds about the subject and people will listen. Also, there opinions are very different but similar in some ways and people will tend to pick one and make that there belief which causes conflict when you try to talk about other beliefs to people.
1. In this discussion Stephen Hawking states that something actually can come from nothing meaning that God could intact be real, but at the same time the earth may have been created without God.
ReplyDelete2. Father Spitzer's belief in Catholic teaching and he believes that God did create the universe, while Hawking believes that something came from nothing on a scientific level, and Chopra believes the same as Hawking but from a spiritual level and that some day will all go back to nothing.
3. I believe that in society all three of these opinions play a huge part in different cultures. I believe people should be able to think what they want to think and agree with any three of these men. In my mind they may very well ALL be correct.
1. The most interesting part of this video was Fr.Spitzer discussing his ideas on how God created the universe. It's really weird to think about how the world was created, because no one really knows for sure. It's interesting how all the different speakers opinions differ so greatly. For example, although Fr.Spitzer believes God created the universe, Stephen Hawkings believes that something can come out of nothing.
ReplyDelete2. Father Spitzer believes in Catholic Doctrine, so he thinks that God created the universe and everything in it. However, he agrees that science can explain why we would not need a creator. Stephen Hawkings idea are the polar opposite, where he is convinced that we cam out of nothingness and were created by nothing. Deepak Chopra seems to believe a mixture of both, saying that we were created out of nothingness, but on a more spiritual side.
3. These ideas affect our society because these people are trying to solve the greatest question on earth - how were we created and why are we here? I think its very important to have some sort of opinion on this because it is basically the reason for your existence. Although differing opinions in this can cause many arguments, its an important subject to have some knowledge about.
1.The most interesting part of this video is when Steven Hawkins talks about quantum relativity and how something can come out of nothingness. He said that there was no need for a god in our creation. i personally believe in what he is saying.
ReplyDelete2. Father Spitzer makes a good point about Steven's book when it said the creationism breaths fire and creates the universe he believes the fire is god. he also believes god came out of nothingness and created us. He also believes in the science that created us and is also trying to prove his point.
3. Deepak Chopra has the idea that god isn't everywhere but he is the universe and we all live in him in the more literal sense. I believe that we came out of nothingness and god doesn't exist. I think that if god was a spiral being and was just there i think we could be be there to.
1. This discussion between these three great men brought up many interesting and ming-boggling points. I believe Stephen Hawkins had one of the most thought provoking idea; that God may exist, but we don't need hi to explain how things were created. He also pointed out that something can come out of nothingness. The possibilities of science are endless.
ReplyDelete2. Stephen Hawking's believes in science, and that things can be created from nothingness. Basically he believes that God is obsolete. Father Spitzer believes in the Catholic Doctrine, or in other words, God. Regardless he agrees with the fact that science can explain many things in the world. Deepak Chopra is the same and different from Father Spitzer and Stephen Hawking. He believes in a combination of the two, that we could of come from nothingness, and that we also have a spiritual side.
3. Opinions can have small and large affects on people in the world. In this particular case, the opinions of these men are very important and revolve around a controversial subject(s). Their opinions can cause both arguments, but also thoughtfulness and open-mindedness. In this case their opinions are differing, but do overlap on some points. The relationship between science and religion is very interesting.
1. I think the most interesting part of the video was Steven Hawkins proposal that the beginning of the universe does not require a god. He is not saying that this proves there is no god he is only stating that science can explain the origins of the universe. He explains that a universe can be created from nothingness.
ReplyDelete2. Father Spitzer follows the teachings of the Catholic Church saying that god created the universe and everything within it. His main argument is that something cannot come from nothing, therefor god is needed in order for the universe to be possible. Steven Hawkins states the complete opposite saying that the science can explain how the universe was formed. His explanation for the universe does not require any sort of divine creator to act upon the universe. Essentially he states that a universe can come from nothing. Deepak Chopra also believes that the universe came from nothing however he does not believe the universe was just due to science, he believes there was a spiritual cause. He also believes that the entire universe has a spiritual purpose.
3. These three theories greatly affect our society because as humans it is in our nature to seek out our creation. However because humans are so opinionated they will often look for the answer that supports their previous beliefs rather then research each theory of creation for themselves and make an educated decision. If people actually took time to understand these theories without any bias many people's belief of the beginning of the universe would change.
1. The most interesting thing to me out of these videos would be how Mr. Hopkins explains that the world is created with out the existance of god! How is that possible that nothing creates nothing. Where can that nothing come from and who created that...
ReplyDelete2. Hopkins believes that there may infact be a god but that science can infact proove that there is no need for a god. Father Spittzer obviously believes it was created by god and that all catholic point of views back up his statement. Deepak Chopra believes that something came from nothing, however he does believe that there may be some supernatural powers.
3. They affect us becuase god put a longing to find our way back "home" in our hearts. So thus as humans we ask ourselves how we got here and is there a god. With 3 of the smartet people on the world sharing their beliefs they can GREATLY influence the beliefs of their peers and fans.
1. the discussion i found most interesting is Stephen Hawking theory that" God might exist but science can explain the universe without the need for a creator." its weird to think that we came from just a little speck in the universe. he also says that there is more than one universe, we are just one of many universes.
ReplyDelete2. Stephen Hawking's view point was "God might exist but science can explain the universe without the need for a creator." Father Spitzer believes that God created everything because of his Catholic beliefs. Deepak Chopra believes that a supernatural power did not make something out of nothing.
3. this affects us today because everyone wants to know where we came from or how we got here. everyone has their own views on who created us either they believe in the Big Bang or they believe that a supernatural being made us.
1) The most interesting part of the video was that Stephen Hawkins says that God might exist because something came from nothing, and that's why humans are here. But he says that no one can be sure of who is the creator. Stephen thinks that we are one of many possible other universes.
ReplyDelete2) Father Spitzer is a Catholic priest who belives in God. His belief is that God is the creator. To believe, you must have faith, and his faith is in God, and the Catholic belief. Deepak Chopra believes that creation happened because of something supernatural.
3) These people and what they believe affect us today because there are many different theories about who created and how it happened. No one knows for sure, but Father Spitzer, Deepak Chopra, and Stephen Hawkin's ideas are a sample of some options you might believe in.
1) The most interesting of the video is that Hawking's opinion about how universe operates. He said that the science and explain the universe without the need for a creator.
ReplyDelete2) Hawking's point was that gravity is consequence of theory which is the only possible unified theory . Deepak Chopra believes that everything came from nothing but it wasnt an empty void; and father Spitzer is a person who believes that god was the creator.
3) These opinions affect our society because almost everyone has different thoughts on where they came from and these 3 people Stephen Hawking, Father Spitzer and Deepak Chopra gave wise opinions that most people agreed with. It helped us a lot about the confusion of where we came from.
